In last month’s issue of The Skip, we featured the story of Jack Clarkson - owner of Worsthorne Skip Hire, Lancashire - who was facing charges for possession of an illegal firearm after a 12 year old trespasser was injured by Mr Clarkson’s ‘alarm gun’ installed at his business premises.
Facing a minimum five year sentence if found guilty, Mr Clarkson’s case hinged on whether the firearm was exempt due to being a form of signalling apparatus. It took the Jury under 3 hours to return the not guilty verdict.
The injured boy’s father, Phil Ashley, is now lobbying Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, to have such make-shift security devices made illegal.
