Ian Rumble, a Hartlepool businessman, has been fined £25,000 after being found guilty of multiple waste offences, including the absence of a waste management licence.
Trading as Cleveland Recycling Services, Mr Rumble made claims to the Environment Agency that he was exempt from needing a licence because his involvement in the industry spanned 21 years. Nevertheless, Rumble was found guilty on seven charges of failing to prevent waste burning and two charges of storing waste. He also asked for ten other charges to be taken into consideration.
Environment Agency spokesperson, Nathan Atkinson, said: “Mr Rumble is an extreme example of someone who blatantly and repeatedly breaks the law on waste, but any skip company or site dealing in mixed wastes, whether sorting it, treating it, or storing it, needs a waste management licence.”
