An ex-employee of EasyJet’s caterers has revealed how out-of-date food was ‘bin-raided’ from a skip and served up to passengers.
The anonymous worker, aged 20, claims he was instructed to climb into the skip and retrieve ten discarded bacon baps when there was insufficient food for an in-flight meal order.
“I was told there was not enough food in the warehouse and the company wanted to avoid complaints. It was treated as a bit of a joke.” Said the worker, who added: “The food was buried under other discarded items.”
The pre-packed, post-dumped sandwiches were 2-3 days out of date when they were handed out to unsuspecting passengers flying out of Luton airport.
Other workers at the catering firm have reportedly confirmed that this incident was not a one-off, but a regular practise in dealing with shortages.
EasyJet commented: “We expect the highest of standards from all of our suppliers and are investigating.”
