Situated just outside the Lincolnshire seaside town of Skegness is the family run business of Sid Dennis and Son Ltd. Founded in 1884 by the first Sid Dennis, it still continues in the Dennis family today.
Sid Dennis and Son Ltd has witnessed many changes within the business of scrap metal and recycling, as indeed has the scrap metal industry itself, maintaining a progression and development meriting respectability.
The fleet has now expanded to 16 vehicles with the latest addition of a second Harsh Skiploader, complete with Skip-Flip sheeting system.
“The Skip-Flip is far better than the tower system we tried as - in addition to normal sized skips - it can cover small skips right down to the mini skips because of the way the sheet is mounted. We are only two miles from the town centre so on local runs, with the time saved, we can get another four loads per day.
The driver on the other wagon fitted with the Skip-Flip is on longer runs and reaps the benefit of one extra skip. However, although significant, it is not the major benefit; the Skip-Flip sheeting system has made it so much easier for him because there's a lot less effort involved. He is approaching 65 and has decided to stay on as the physical element has been taken out of his job and it’s just a matter of pulling levers.” explains Alfie of Sid Dennis and Son Ltd.
