Our well-chiselled Skip Hunk for this month is Dave, from Hart Waste Collections. We’re told it’...
"The Skip" magazine was born in June 2005 as "The Voice of the Skip Hire Industry in the UK and Ireland".
Unlike most boring trade magazines, "The Skip" was created to be an entertaining mixture of news about skip hire, people in the skip hire industry, environmental issues, health and safety issues, products and services for improving the profitability and productivity of skip hire companies.
The skip hire industry is massively important to the future of the environment. Whether you are removing rubbish with a fleet of just three mini-skips or carrying out large commercial waste contracts, "The Skip" exists to improve communications within the skip hire arm of the UK waste management industry so that we can all meet the rising challenge of reducing landfill and increasing waste recycling - whilst trying to have a bit of fun along the way.
Since launch, we have been seen on BBC1's "Have I Got News For You" (we knew they'd find a magazine about skips amusing) and has been heard on BBC radio across the land (including BBC Radio 2) as, literally, the voice of the skip hire industry.
Skip hire has not got the greatest of reputations in the UK, and "The Skip" is dedicated to improving this image. The people in the skip hire industry are a wonderful, hard working, warm and witty bunch - but the media is less interested in that when there's a story about a cowboy skip operator fined £50,000 for fly-tipping.
How we relate to councils, how we deal with different local authority interpretations of the Highways Act 1980, and what they charge for skip hire permits, how we deal with the public at large, how we avoid being ripped off by spiraling insurance costs, how we find out about the latest technological developments that can improve the way we operate, how we relate to the Environment Agency, how we keep up to date with the latest Health & Safety developments - "The Skip" exists to help us all communicate better to improve our lives, our industry, our reputation and the environment.
"The Skip" is published every month and is available by subscription only. To keep up to date with what we're up to, sign up to our email newsletter below. In the meantime, please take a look around this site; we hope you enjoy it.
